License
1. Android
The Android application is free to download and use, under the Terms of Service. No license key is required. The free Android app is supported by advertising (see the Privacy Policy).
2. Windows: Free Version
Panther Barcode Reader for Windows is free to download and use. Scanning, the QR code generator, favorites, export, and Android device connectivity (Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scan sharing and history sync) all work on the free version with no time limit.
The one difference on the free version is in scan history: the History view and history export show your 100 most recent scans. This is not destructive — every scan stays in the app's local database on your PC, and your full history reappears the moment you activate a Personal license.
3. Windows: 14-Day Trial
You can start a free 14-day trial from the app's Settings screen. During the trial the 100-scan history limit is removed, so you can evaluate the full experience. Starting a trial does not obligate you to purchase. When the trial ends, the app keeps working as the free version (your scans are not deleted).
4. Windows Personal License
A Personal license unlocks unlimited scan history on Panther Barcode Reader for Windows. Subject to the Terms of Service, Panther Soft grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the full version of the Windows application for your personal use.
5. One-Time Purchase
A Personal license is a one-time purchase — there is no monthly or annual subscription. It is a perpetual license for the major version you purchase: you can keep using that version. Online purchasing is not yet available — see the Pricing page for the current status.
6. Activation
You activate a Personal license by entering your license key in the app (Settings → Licence). Activation requires a brief internet connection to verify the key with Panther Soft's licensing service. After that, the app works entirely offline using a securely stored local license — it does not check your license on every launch, and there is no background or periodic check.
7. Device Policy
A Personal license may be activated on up to 2 personal Windows devices by default. Device identifiers used for activation are random values generated by the app — they are not hardware fingerprints and contain nothing about your PC.
8. Transfer & Recovery
To move your license to a different PC, open Settings → Licence on the old PC and choose Deactivate this device — that frees a slot — then activate on the new PC. If the old PC is lost or unavailable, contact info@panthersoft.net and we can free the slot for you. If you lose your license key, we can re-issue it to the email address used for the purchase.
9. Updates
A Personal license includes free updates and bug fixes for the major version you purchase. When a future major version is released, existing license holders are offered a discounted upgrade. Any such change is communicated in advance and never retroactively removes functionality you have already purchased. See Terms of Service §9.
10. Privacy of Activation
License activation sends only your license key, a random device identifier, an optional device name, the app version, and the platform ("windows"). It never sends anything about your scans, your scan history, or the contents of any code — those never leave your device. See the Privacy Policy.
11. Refunds
Personal license purchases are eligible for a full refund within 14 days. See the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
